    • Farmer Suddenly Called by Death

      W. H. Jackson, a prominent farmer living northwest of town, was suddenly called by death Monday evening of this week, December 31st [1923]. He had been out doing his chores and came into the house about five o'clock to get a drink of water. His folks noticed that he did not appear to be just right and went to his assistance and helped him to a lounge. A doctor was immediately called but medical aid was unavailing, and Mr. Jackson passed away within a few minutes, apoplexy being the cause of his death. He was highly respected in his neighborhood.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Morning Sun, Wednesday Afternoon, Reverend W. E. Tinney, the pastor, in charge. Interment was in Elmwood cemetery.

The following relatives were here for the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Jackson of Burlington, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Doran, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Jackson, Miss Kate Jackson, and Lewis and John Jackson of Mt. Pleasant; Mr. and Mrs. Riffle of Sperry.

William Henry Jackson was born July 10th, 1858, near Sperry, Des Moines county, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He lived a short time in Minnesota, later going to the southwestern part of Iowa, where he was united in marriage to Estella Beadle, August 12, 1890, at Red Oak, Iowa. Three children were born of this union: Bud Raymond of this city; and Emma Arlyne and Leo Burl at home. Mr. Jackson and family came from Macedonia, Pottawattamie county, Iowa, to Wapello, Iowa, March 1, 1895, later moving to the farm northwest of Morning Sun in March 1910, where he has since resided.

Mr. Jackson is the first of the family to be called by death. He leaves his wife and three children, also three sisters, Mrs. Frank Doran, Mrs. E. Jackson, Miss Kate Jackson, and three brothers, Lewis Byron and John Wassom, all of Mt. Pleasant, and Edward Andrew, who resides at Burlington, besides other relatives and friends. Two brothers and his parents preceded him in death.

Mr. Jackson was a kind and loving husband and father, and his passing leaves a great vacancy in his home and his neighborhood.
