      Morning Sun, Iowa, January 20. (1932) --

      The Royal Neighbors lodge held their installation of officers Tuesday evening at Woodman hall with an attendance of one hundred and twenty-five, Mrs. Lily Hight of Winfield acting as installing officer and Mrs. Lola Reece of Ainsworth, ceremonial marshal. Miss Helen Griffith presided at the piano during the installation.

      The following officers were installed: Oracle, Mrs. Susie Wright; past oracle, Mrs. Nora Cunningham; vice oracle, Mrs. Nora Smith; chancellor, Mrs. Mary H. Kerr; recorder, Mrs. Bertha Heckenberg; receiver, Mrs. Belle (Hannah) Walker; inner sentinel, Mrs. Mary E. Kerr; outer sentinel, Mrs. Lulu Congrove; marshal Miss Veda Maxson; assistant marshal, Mrs. Opal Marshal; musician, Miss Frances Wright; manager for three years, Miss Grace Cory; color bearer, Mrs. Leota Crist; captain of degree staff, Mrs. Ellen Griffith; juvenile director, Mrs. Laura Hartman; camp physician, Dr. Roy Tandy.

      Following the installation ceremonies a clever farce was presented by ten couples, under the direction of Mrs. Mary Strawhacker. Refreshments were served with Mrs. Laura Hartman chairman of the committee. Mrs. Oscar Lofgren and George Haight of Winfield were out of town guests.

    The Hawk Eye 
    • Opal Pauline Nichols, 82, of Morning Sun, died Monday, July 27, 1992, at Burlington Medical Center.

      Born October 20, 1909, at Newport, Iowa, she was the daughter of Tom and Cora Congrove Baird. She married Gib Marshall February 6, 1928. She later married Grant Stanford Nichols January 23, 1937. He died August 1, 1976.

      She was a graduate of the Morning Sun High School and a member of the Morning Sun United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.

      Survivors include five sons, Elwood Marshall of Dewitt, Paul Marshall of Burlington, Albert Nichols of Phoenix, Arizona, Ronald Nichols of Oakville, and David Nichols of Morning Sun; three daughters, Marcella Bryant and Dorothy Jones, both of Morning Sun, and Mary McDonald of Cedar Falls; one sister, Jean Griffin of Morning Sun; 26 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.

      Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, one great-granddaughter, four brothers and eight sisters.

      The family will receive friends from 7 to 8;30 p.m. Wednesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun. The funeral for Mrs. Nichols will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Morning Sun United Methodist Church with the Reverend Chris Ebbers officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

      A memorial has been established for the Morning Sun United Methodist Church.

    • OPAL BAIRD WEDS GILBERT MARSHALL

      Wapello, Iowa, February 8 (1929) -- Wednesday evening, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Baird at Newport, their daughter, Opal Pauline and Gilbert Marshall, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Marshall of Winfield, were married.

      The ceremony was read by the Reverend C. E. Burdine. pastor of the Presbyterian church at Wapello, at 4 p.m. in the presence of about 40 guests. The bride wore a gown of tan and carried a bouquet of sunburst roses. Phyllis Moyers was ring bearer. Miss Myrtle Baird, sister of the bride, acted as bride's maid and Cecil Hamilton was best man.

      Following the ceremony a wedding dinner was served. The house decorations were pink and white. The centerpieces for the tables were American Beauty roses. The dinner was served in three courses.
