    Biography  2010  [16
    • Cecil Venghaus was the son of John August (aka "Gus" and "J. A.") Venghaus (1875-1962) and Ora Emily Walker (1882-1950). His father was born in Iowa of Prussian immigrants, and his mother was a member of a very large Walker clan that settled in the 1840s in Benton Township of Des Moines County, Iowa. His parents were married in 1902, and Cecil was the first born. Their other child was Hazel Lois Corey (1909-2007), the wife of Elwyn Wesley Corey (1910-1984). Hazel and Elwyn settled in Washington County, Iowa. Cecil was born in Louisa County, Iowa, but the family moved to Canaan Township in Henry County, near Mt. Union, Iowa, between 1915-1920. That area is where Cecil spent the rest of his life.

The Venghaus children, Ralph and Gene, were both involved in organizations and athletics in their youth, and their descendants include a number of persons who won many athletic honors while in high school. By the 1960s, Mount Union High School merged with the one in nearby Winfield, and "Winfield-Mt. Union" is where many of the grandchildren and later descendants attended school.

    Research
    • Ada and Cecil were both issued Social Security numbers from the state of Arizona. This is somewhat mysterious, but perhaps might have been accomplished during a winter stay there. Alternatively, one might speculate that during the 1930s and the Depression, they may perhaps have spent some time there and received their cards at that point.

Redfern (Ogg), Ada Mae Hale (Venghaus), Everett Tate Hale, and Charles Samuel "Sam" Redfern. A boy about 10 years old or so was identified in the picture as Cecil Woodrow Miller, but he was just born in 1915. It possibly was Cecil Francis Venghaus, who later married Ada Hale.
