    The Hawk Eye 
    • George Junior Dotson, 70, of Big Lake, Missouri, died Sunday, February 8, 1998, at his home.

      He was born August 17, 1927, in Wapello.

      He was a 1945 graduate of Mediapolis High School, attended college for two years and served in the Air Force for 25 years, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He received several medals, including the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, one with a V-Device, and a Purple Heart.

      After the military, Mr. Dotson worked for EG&G Special Projects Division in Las Vegas, retiring in 1988 and moving to Big Lake where he operated The Eagle's Nest restaurant from 1990 until the Flood of 1993. Then he opened The Eagle's Nest II which he operated until 1995.

      During the Flood of 1993, he assisted in serving meals for the Salvation Army and in relocating people and animals. He received the Missouri Outstanding Flood Volunteer Award from Governor Mel Carnahan.

      Survivors include five sons, Tim of Big Lake, Missouri, Tony of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Tracy of Grand Prairie, Texas, Todd of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Trent of Seattle, Washington; one daughter, Tam Dobson of Milwaukee; three sisters, Donna Jonas of Seattle, Mabel Kelly of Mediapolis and Lucille Poggemiller of Lockhart, Texas; and numerous grandchildren.

      Services were held Saturday in Mound City, Missouri. Burial followed in National Cemetery at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

      Oakville, Iowa, November 24. -- A wedding of much interest was that of Thursday evening at the home of the bride's parents. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Callahan. near Newport, when their daughter, Marian Louise, was united in marriage to Ralph Thomas Dotson. Reverend Frank Young performed the ceremony in the presence of immediate relatives and friends. Proceeding the ceremony, musical numbers on the piano and violin were rendered, with a vocal solo, "Just Because," sung by Miss Yera Campbell. The home was beautiful in its color scheme of yellow and white, and during the ceremony the couple stood under a large bell. A two-course luncheon was served. Both Mr. and Mrs. Dotson have a multitude of friends who extend congratulations.

    • Wapello (IA) -- On Monday, November 15, at 12 o'clock Miss Gladys Mary Kwiatkowski, daughter of Mrs. Mary T. Kwiatkowski, Hartford, Connecticut, became the bride of George J. Dotson, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Dotson, Wapello, at the Dotson home. Reverend C. W. Richardson, Lenox, read the single ring ceremony.

      Miss Thelma Eubanks, Morning Sun, was soloist and was accompanied by Mrs. Bruce Rich, Mt. Vernon.

      The bride was given in marriage by her brother, Leonard Kwiatkowski, Ft. Breckenridge, Kentucky. Mrs. H. A. Giansanti, Hartford, Connecticut, served her sister as matron of honor. Robert D. Butcher, Morning Sun, was best man.

      A wedding dinner was served at the Dotson home to 22 guests. A reception was held in the evening. The bridegroom's' parents silver wedding anniversary was also celebrated.

      The couple left for a short trip to Hartford, Connecticut. They will make their home near Wapello.

      The bride attended Hartford high school and was recently discharged from the WAF after serving for 4 years. She spent 2 years at the Erding air base in Germany. The bridegroom is a graduate of Mediapolis high school and served in the air force. He recently received his discharge after overseas duty in the European theater, with the army of occupation.

    George Dotson, the son of Ralph "Thomas" and Marian Louise (Callahan) Dotson, was born August 17, 1937, in Wapello, died February 8, 1998, in Big Lake, Missouri, and was buried at the National Cemetery in Fort Leavenworth, Leavenworth County, Kansas. He had a first short-lived marriage to Gladys Mary Kwiatkowski, later married Naomi Elizabeth Wilson (1920-2004), they divorced, and had a third marriage to Betty Lou Atkinson of Geff, Illinois. George and Betty were the parents of six children. (George's son, Timothy Ray Dotson, who has a Family Tree maker web site, has provided a vast amount of helpful of information on the Dotson family that settled in southeast Iowa.)
