    • Norma Elizabeth King, 90, of Morning Sun, died at 1:15 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2009, at the Morning Sun Care Center in Morning Sun, Iowa.

      Born April 16, 1918, in Sperry, Iowa, she was the daughter of Bolen Elijah and Cora Alice Randolph Ping. On June 27, 1941, she married Adolph "Joe" Alvis Newman in Michigan. He died on July 24, 1966. On June 5, 1983, she married Howard R. King in Middletown, Iowa. He died on December 29, 2000.

      She graduated in 1935 from Sperry High School, Sperry, Iowa

      After graduating from High School, Mrs. King worked at several locations in Burlington, including Chittenden and Eastman and Hotel Burlington. She also worked at the Weathervane, Grain Belt Equipment Company and Tom's Cafe in Mediapolis. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Mediapolis. She won declamatory contests and she enjoyed singing and playing the piano. Her favorite piano song was, "Springtime In The Rockies." She enjoyed visiting with her friends, dancing at the Senior Center, and gardening.

      Survivors include three daughters, Ruth M. (Wayne) Smith of Burlington, Betty Jo (Gene) Brickl of Lacey, Washington, and Pamela (Jeff) McWilliams of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three step-sons, Bruce King of New London, Royce King of Burlington, and Dick King of Clinton, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

      Besides her husbands she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, two sisters and one daughter, Judith Juhl.

      As per the request of Mrs. King, cremation has been accorded.

      The family will receive friends from noon until 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home.

      The Memorial Service for Mrs. King will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009, in the Chapel of the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Kendall Adams officiating.

      A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.

      The Hass-Thielen Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.

    Norma Elizabeth Ping, was born April 16, 1918, and died March 2, 2009. She was the daughter of Bolen Elijah Ping (1871-1953) and Cora Alice Randolph (1871-1949). She married Adolph Alvis "Joe" Newman June 27, 1941, in Michigan. He died in 1966.
