    • Mrs. Nelson Ross, Winfield. died September 2 in Burlington hospital, where she was a surgical patient. Annie Eligema Anderson, daughter of Pontius and Mary Anderson, was born December 11, 1884, at Ostergotland, Sweden. The family came to the United States when she was four months old. On January 28, 1908, she was married to Nelson Ross, and they lived in the New London, Mt. Pleasant, and Winfield communities. Several months ago they purchased a residence in Winfield.

      Mrs. Ross was a member of the Methodist church of New London.

      In addition to her husband, Mrs. Ross is survived by two sons and a daughter: Gerald and Walter Ross, both of Winfield, and Mrs. Myrtle Lee, of Riverside, California.

      Also surviving are a brother and two sisters: Charles L. Anderson, Morning Sun; Mrs. Beda Stone, Atkinson, Illinois, and Mrs. Sophia Bolon, of Winfield, and four grandchildren.

      Services will be held at the Winfield Methodist church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. The Reverend M. C. Shupe will officiate, and burial will be in Winfield Scott Township cemetery.

      The body is at the Barton funeral home.

    • The Pontius Anderson Family Enjoys Reunion.

      The descendants of Mr. and Mrs. Pontius Anderson gathered at their home near Mt. Union, Thursday, October 24th, to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. They were married October 24, 1879, in Wester Harg, Sweden, coming to America 44 years ago. They have resided in the Morning Sun and Mt. Union vicinities ever since. A bounteous cafeteria dinner was served. The centerpiece on the table was a bouquet of gold chrysanthemums. There was also a large cake with fifty candles on it. A present of gold was given Mr. and Mrs. Anderson by the children. There are five children living, one having died in infancy, also ten grandchildren and one great-grandson.

      Those present to enjoy this celebration were: Mr. and Mrs. Mart Stone and Isel of Alexis, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Jess Stone and Bobby of Yarmouth; Mr. and Mrs. Nels Ross, Walter and Gerald of Winfield; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Cummings of Morning Sun; Mr. and Mrs. Willis Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Crawford, Harry and Glenn, of Mt. Union; Sophia and Charlie Anderson at home. All the family were present except the grandsons Lester and Elmer Stone of Alexis, Illinois. This couple are prosperous and well respected citizens of their community and after a very enjoyable day, all departed wishing them more happy anniversaries.
