    • Two West Burlington Men Die In Auto Accidents

      Two men from West Burlington were killed Sunday in traffic accidents in Iowa and Missouri.

      Dead are:

      Jon Norman Walker, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald R. (Chick) Walker, 2301 Gear. He was a sophomore at the University of Iowa. His father is controller of the local National Research Bureau.

      Caryl Cunningham, 49, 201? Spring, vice president of Security Laboratories, Burlington.

      Cunningham's wife, Maxine, 49, and his son, Kenneth, 19, were reported in satisfactory condition at St. Elizabeth's hospital at Hannibal, Missouri, Monday.

      Walker was fatally injured at 2 a.m. Sunday when he was thrown from a car on old Iowa 218 two and a half miles north of Iowa City.

      Authorities said he was a passenger in an auto driven by Dennis Lee Hogeland, 19, Iowa City. The highway patrol said Hogeland was northbound when he lost control of his car. Walker was thrown out as the car rolled several times before landing in a ditch.

      The accident that claimed Cunningham's life occurred at 5:35 p.m. a mile and a half south fo Palmyra, Missouri, on combination Highways 24 and 61.

      According to the Marion county's sheriff's office, Cunningham was changing from a 4-lane to a 2-lane section of road when his vehicle collided with an oncoming car driven by Darrell Ragland, 19, Hannibal. Ragland was reported in critical condition at St. Elizabeth's Monday.

      Services for Jon Walker will be, Tuesday at 9 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic church. The body is at Sheagren funeral home.

      Mr. Cunningham's body is at Elliott-Lunning chapel.

      Saturday afternoon a rural Bloomfield woman and her 6-year-old son were killed when the tractor on which they were riding overturned into a ditch almost 12 miles north of Bloomfield.

      Davis County sheriff James W. Yates identified the victims as Mrs. Marjorie Wal?, 46, and her son, Donald.

    • Tuesday Rites For Jon Walker

      Services for 20-year-old Jon Norman (Punky) Walker, who was killed, in a traffic accident, Sunday (December 1, 1968), will be at St. Paul church Tuesday at nine, with burial in Aspen Grove cemetery. The rosary will be recited this evening at 7:30 at the Sheagren funeral home.

      Jon Walker was the son of Ronald (Chick) and Helen Anderson Walker, and was born October 6, 1948, in Burlington. His home was at 2301 Gear Avenue, West Burlington.

      He was an Eagle Scout and was a 1967 graduate of the Burlington high school, where he was on the wrestling team for three years.

      He was a sophomore at the University of Iowa, where he was treasurer of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He was a member of the ROTC at the university, and of St. Paul church in Burlington.

      Surviving: the parents; brothers James Walker of Ames and Gerald Walker, at home; sister Mrs. Pamela Denniston of Ames, and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. J. Russell Walker and Mrs. J. P. Anderson, all of Burlington.
