- Dr. Hubert "Herb" Marquette Perryman was born on March 25, 1922, in Prairie City to Carl R. and Gaynelle (Showers) Perryman.
Herb was raised in Newton, graduating from high school there in 1940. He then attended and graduated from the University of Iowa. Herb was inducted into the United States Navy in 1944, where he served for two years during World War II. After being honorably discharged, Herb attended the Still Medical School in Des Moines, graduating in 1951, with a DO. Herb served an externship in 1950 at Columbus, Ohio, and an internship in 1951, in Dallas, Texas. In 1952, he took over Dr. Bell's practice in Pleasantville, serving the community for many years. He was known for being a very caring person - one of the old-fashioned house call type doctors. On October 6, 1988, Dr. Perryman retired. He and his wife then began traveling and wintering in Arizona.
Herb was very involved in the church and the entire Pleasantville community. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting and was an excellent marksman. He also loved family celebrations. He was a member of the Pleasantville Christian Church, the American Legion and Hospice of Central Iowa.
Herb died on January 6, 2006, at the Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 83.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Norma.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma; sons, Dennis (Kathie) Perryman of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and David (Sandy) Perryman of West Des Moines; their mother, Vera Perryman of Bella Vista, Arkansas; a brother, Max Perryman of Altoona and five grandchildren and their mother Marilyn.
Funeral services were held on January 13 at the Pleasantville Christian Church with Pastor John Claussen officiating.
