    • Janet Ann Wilcox, 70, of Wapello, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006, at her home.

      Born May 12, 1936, in Ottumwa, she was the daughter of Dale and Mildred Bailey Callahan. She married Berl Gerald Wilcox on June 2, 1979, in Biggsville, Illinois.

      She graduated from Wapello High School in 1954. She worked at Champion Spark Plug in Burlington for 33 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Wapello and the Roamin Hawks Camping Club. She loved music. She enjoyed fishing and camping.

      She is survived by her husband, of Wapello; two daughters, Debra Ford of Colona, Illinois, and Brenda Iniama of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; one son, Greg Moore of San Antonio; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Sam Callahan of Des Moines; and three nephews.

      She was preceded in death by her parents.

      Per her wishes, cremation is being accorded.

      Memorial services for Mrs. Wilcox will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello, with the Reverend James H. Huston officiating.

      A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society and the First Presbyterian Church.

    • Miss Mildred M. Bailey and Mr. Curtis Dale Callahan, both of Wapello, were united in marriage at 2:00 o'clock, Saturday afternoon (March 26, 1927), at the parsonage of St. Paul's Methodist church in this city. Reverend J. Stanley Decker officiated, using the double ring ceremony.

      The bridal party consisted of the bride and groom, the parents of the bride, and Miss Doris Maxwell of Crawfordsville, Iowa, a friend of the bride. Miss Bailey was becomingly dressed in a gown of beige flat crepe with hat, shoes and stockings to match.

      The bride, who is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William S. Bailey, is a charming young lady and has been a successful teacher for some years in the schools of Louisa and Henry counties. She is at present teaching in the schools of Mt. Union, Iowa, and will finish her present contract. The groom is a son of Thomas J. Callahan of the same neighborhood, and is a young man of excellent qualities and promise as a farmer and citizen. They will, for the present make their home with the bride's parents, Mr. Callahan taking charge of his father-in-law's farm.

    • Gail Chamberlin Heads Annual Beir Family Reunion

      Gail Chamberlin of Muscatine was named president for the coming year at the Henry Bier family reunion held at Cartwright park in Mediapolis Sunday.

      Others chosen were Mrs. N. M. Stark, vice president; and Mrs. Cora Spring, secretary and treasurer.

      At the business meeting, which followed a basket dinner at noon, Will Bailey of Wapello presided and Miss Martha Peters of West Liberty served as secretary-treasurer.

      Forty-one attended the event, which was the fourth annual reunion.
