    • Offer Snow Shovels to California Son

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Waters called by long distance their son, Joe A. Waters, and family at San Fernando, California, Tuesday evening and jokingly inquired how many snow shovels they needed. Joe Waters reported it was sleeting in San Fernando when they called and the Waters had 6 inches of snow in their front yard.

    • Ten Children Gather For Waters Anniversary Event

Tuesday, December 20, their 50th wedding anniversary, will be a great day for Mr. and Mrs. Fred Waters, 209 North Main Street. For the first time in sixteen years, the Waters', their ten children, and thirteen grandchildren hope to be together for the family dinner and Christmas exchange, Tuesday.

The Waters have skipped through the years together much as they did at their first meeting, a neighborhood get-together where the young people played "Skip To My Lou" and "Buffalo Gal."

Now at the threshold of their golden anniversary, the former Miss Elizabeth Prickett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Prickett of New London and Fred Waters, son of Mr. and Mrs. John N. Waters, also of the New London community, are making detailed preparations for their half-century observance which will consist of an open house, Sunday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. for their many friends and relatives, their family dinner at noon Tuesday, and the Christmas oyster stew and exchange Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Waters, who were married at the home of her parents, December 20, 1899, farmed near New London until six years ago, following which they lived in New London for two years, coming to Mt. Pleasant in '44.

Their nice white cottage, 209 North Main, is the hub of all the festivities. There, noodles were spread to dry on the kitchen table, centerpieces were in the making, and Mrs. Waters told of the extra beds being set up for the children who are coming from a distance. The daughters and daughters-in-law are helping with all of the plans. Mrs. Frank Lane of Stockport, a friend of Mrs. Dale Anderson, the daughter from Stockport, was getting a "whale of a bang" out of the golden wedding arrangements. Coming from a big family of ten brothers and two sisters, she felt right at home.

Seated in the living room where the walls were lined with pictures of her ten children, Mrs. Waters pointed with pride to each in an old fashioned box style frame. Mrs. Waters has made a special effort to secure the frames and wants each son or daughter to have his when they are through with them.

All of the children are expected here for the open house Sunday -- Joe and John from San Fernando, California, Halvor (who lives at home and whose unusual name was a suggestion of Dr. Cook, the family doctor, when the parents couldn't decide on a name; Elizabeth, Mrs. L. E. Roetman of Mediapolis; Howard of Danville (known to everyone); Roger of Portland, Oregon; Philo of San Fernando, California; Ross of Mt. Pleasant; Winifred, Mrs. Dale W. Anderson, of Stockport, and Edith Pauline, Mrs. Ernest Presshard of Chicago.

The centerpiece for the tea table for the open house Sunday at the Waters' home is beautifully appropriate -- curled gold plastic holds the two white candles and in the snowy vase between them is the small vase for three yellow roses. The napkins have been artistically decorated with golden wedding bells by Edith Pauline, the daughter from Chicago.

A granddaughter's husband, Harold Ham of Mediapolis, who has had much experience in baking cakes, has achieved a work of art in the three-tiered cake with its ornamented top.

Always more or less active in church work at New London when caring for her large family would allow, Mrs. Waters has been a faithful worker since coming to Mt. Pleasant in the local church. Members of her church asked to serve the family dinner at noon Tuesday at the First Methodist church. Before moving to town, Mr. Waters was connected with the Farm Bureau.

Asked what she considered the highlights of their fifty years of married life together, Mrs. Waters counted three important ones -- the fact that all ten of the children graduated from the New London high school and some of the attended college. The Waters enjoyed watching two of the boys who took an active part in basketball.

Their trip to California was considered another important occasion in their fifty years together, and Tuesday night's get-together after a period of sixteen years will be the climactic event of them all. Monday following open house, the huge Christmas tree will be set up in the Waters home for the Christmas exchange which will be held early for the children returning to their homes.

Four angel food cakes have been baked and sealed (scaled?) for Tuesday night's oyster supper. White cotton Santa Clauses will be used as place favors and the tre nut cups have each person's name sketched in macaroni.

    • Mr. and Mrs. Fred Waters Recovering From Injuries

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Waters, injured in a car accident at Guymon, Oklahoma, last Friday, are improving and expect to return to Mt. Pleasant soon. Mrs. Waters was the most seriously injured, but it was thought that she could be moved within a few days. Mr. Waters was badly shaken, but his injuries were less serious than those suffered by Mrs. Waters. Their sons, Ross and Howard Waters, and son-in-law, Dale Anderson, have returned home after going to Guymon to be with Mr. and Mrs. Waters.

John Waters went on to California from Guymon and Mrs. Dale Anderson expects to return home Tuesday. Mrs. Lambert Roetman of Mediapolis and Halvor Waters will remain with their parents.

According to a Guymon newspaper, Fred Waters drove his car around a grader and swung into a sandpile that was being used for repair work. The car swerved to the other side of the highway and went into a ditch.
