      James Perry Cluff, one of the county's well-known, highly respected and successful farmers, passed away at his home, five miles north of the city, in Tama township, at 9:30 o'clock Sunday morning, the cause of death being heart trouble. He was born in Hancock county, Illinois (sic: probably Ohio), March 3, 1843, and was married to Miss Sarah Voilet, May 27, 1869. She died June 13, 1877, and the widower was married to Mrs. James Walker, on April 8, 1884. She survives him with five children: Mrs. Blanch Coons, of Oral, South Dakota; John Cluff, Sloan, Iowa; James Cluff, Burlington; Alva and Mamie Cluff at home. There are also five stepchildren: Mrs. Birdie Walker, Mrs. Annis Warth, C. W., Mort, and Clark Walker.

      Deceased was a faithful member of the Tamatown church, an ever willing worker for any good cause. He was held in high esteem by many friends, neighbors and acquaintances, and will be missed where he was best known.

      The funeral service will be held at the Tamatown M. E. church, this (Tuesday) afternoon at 1 o'clock, with interment in the Walker cemetery. Friends are invited to these services
