    • Funeral Service For William Burgus This Afternoon

      Funeral services for William F. Burgus will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Burnett-Walton funeral home in charge of the Reverend W. H. Spence, with the Reverend Robert Neumann assisting. Interment will be in Aspen Grove cemetery.

      Mr. Burgus, who was 49 years old, died at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon (March 24, 1929) at St. Francis hospital following an extended illness. He resided at 1901 Madison avenue.

      He was born in Des Moines county, March 7, 1880, and had lived in the city all his life (sic). March 29, 1911, he was married to Miss Grace Upton, who survives him with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Burgus of Sperry; one son, William, at home; four brothers, Harry A. Burgus and Fred E. Burgus of Burlington, Charles Burgus of Sperry, and L. D. Burgus of Cedar Rapids, and a sister, Mrs. Morris Schmidt of Sperry. A daughter, Marcella Mae Burgus, preceded him in death.

      For a time Mr. Burgus operated a store on South Hill. He was a member of First M. E. church.

    • William Burgus Laid to Rest

      Funeral services for William F. Burgus, Madison avenue confectionery proprietor, were held yesterday afternoon (March 26, 1929) at the Burnett-Wallen funeral home in charge of the Reverend W. H. Spence and the Reverend Robert Neumann. Prayer was said by the Reverend C. W. Cochran, Oskaloosa, Iowa. A vocal solo was sung by Mrs. Rizor, accompanied by Mrs. O'Keefe.

      Burial was in Aspen Grove and pallbearers were Carl Hart, L. A, Beckett, E. G. Marquardt, Frank Kiehne, Geo. Neff, Arthur Johnson.

      Among those from out of town here for the services were: Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Burgus, Cedar Rapids; Reverend and Mrs. C. W. Cochran, Oskaloosa; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grove, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Mrs. Elsie Narathon, Aurora, Illinois.

    William Frederick Burgus was born to WIlliam A. and Margaret (Brumm) Burgus March 7, 1880, in Des Moines County, Iowa. He died at age 49. William married Grace Viola Upton, the daughter of William Henry Upton and Sivinia Smith. They had two children. Their daughter Marcella Mae Burgus died before the age of 10. Their son was William Upton Burgus.
