      Charles W. Baumgartner, age 55, of 1417 Iowa street, died suddenly at his home at 6:30 o'clock Sunday morning, the result of a heart ailment He had spent Saturday evening in the company of friends, and apparently was in good health. He awoke about 5:30 o'clock Sunday morning, complaining of severe pains in the region of his heart, succumbing an hour later.

      Mr. Baumgartner, who was commander of Philip Ashley Crapo Camp No. 20, Spanish War Veterans, was born In Burlington June 29, 1879, and resided here practically all of his life. When the Spanish war broke out he was below the legal age of enlistment. Later however, on September 2, 1899, having attained his majority, he enlisted in the 39th Iowa volunteer infantry for service in the Philippines, where he served until his regiment was mustered out.

      Returning to the United States Mr. Baumgartner was united in marriage with Miss Alma Brown October 29, 1902. In addition to his wife, he leaves two children. Jack and Naomi, of Burlington; two grandchildren and one brother Paul, of Waterloo, Iowa. At the time of his death Mr. Baumgartner was engaged as an extra bridge-tender on the MacArthur bridge.

      Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Prugh's chapel, with burial in Aspen Grove cemetery. Spanish war veterans are requested to attend.
