    • Researcher Duane McSmith, the grandson of Amelia and Hensen Smith, posted some information to a Rootsweb "Smith" named list online in 2001. On that message, Charles W. Smith was mentioned was Hensen's father:

"It's bad enough to look for SMITH but when the given name is Charles W. SMITH there are many that do not fit. Charles W. SMITH shows up in the 1870 census with two children, Hensen D. and Amelia (sic: Adelia was Hensen's sister). Charles W. is shown as born in Iowa.

"The following is a page from a family Bible. (Note: nowhere have I been able to connect SCOTT as kinfolk. If any one has a SCOTT married to a SMITH in this timeframe I would appreciate help.)

"Kinfolk births, of the family. (Title at top of page)

      "H. T.SCOTT, October 19, 1826; Clemie SCOTT, April 26, 1847; Hensen SMITH, August 20 1868; Lea SCOTT, August 14, 1875; Hady SCOTT, August 28, 1877; Daisy SCOTT, April 3, 1881; May SCOTT, December 4, 1883; Amelia S. [Nantz/Smith] born January 12, 1870; Charles Duane SMITH, 1890 June (blob) (My father); Sylvia SMITH, BORN February 2, 1892.

"Hensen Dwain SMITH and Amelia NANTZ were married in Burlington Iowa November 11, 1889, by Dr Johnson. (I have marriage certificate).

"Hensen Dwain SMITH died February 11, 1929, At Comfort Texas. (Unable to find grave site)"

Duane continued and mentioned he had visited his grandfather Hensen Smith in Comfort, Texas, before Hensen's death.

Regarding the mystery of the Scott family name, it is solved, as it is that of Hensen Smith's mother, Clementine (Cary/Smith) Scott, which came from her second marriage to Henry T. Scott.
