    The Hawk Eye 
    • Sperry (IA) -- Wallace Walker, 78, Sperry, died at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, January 11, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born September 29, 1894, in Sperry, the son of Harvey and Tillie Huffman Walker. He married Hattie Hinson September 12, 1922, in Burlington. A farmer, he was a member of Kingston Methodist church, World War I veteran, and member of World War I Barracks of Burlington.

      Surviving: The wife; three daughters, Mrs. Jane Bazel and Mrs. Elsie Pforts, Mediapolis, and Mrs. Joyce Doyle, Danville; a nephew, Junior Massey, Mediapolis; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

      Funeral: Saturday, 1:30 p.m., Kingston Methodist church; Memorial park cemetery, Burlington. Body is at Fry Chapel, Mediapolis.

    • Walkers to mark golden year

      Sperry (IA) -- Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Walker, Sperry rural, will observe their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, September 10, at a reception from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Kingston United Methodist church. Neighbors. friends and relatives are invited. Mr. and Mrs. Walker were married September 12, 1922, in Burlington. They have lived on their present farm the entire 50 years. Mr. Walker was born there and except for the time he served with the US Army in World War I, it has always been his home. He is now retired.

      Hosting the reception will be the couple's three daughters and their families: Mrs. Jane Bazel and Mrs. Elsie Pforts, both of Mediapolis, and Mrs. Joyce Doyle, Danville. The Walkers' nephew, Junior Massey, Mediapolis, who lived with them, and his family will also be hosts. The Walkers have 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

    Wallace G. Walker was a son of Harvey Walker and Matilda E. "Tilly" Huffman. Wallace married Hattie Ruth Hinson September 12, 1922, in Burlington, Iowa. He was born in 1894 in Sperry, Iowa, and died January 11, 1973, also in Sperry. He is buried at the Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery in West Burlington Township, Des Moines County, Iowa.
