    The Hawk Eye 
    • Warren Thomas Ertz, 72, of Burlington died at 10:05 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born October 29, 1934, in Burlington, he was the son Frederick Reed and Helen Katherine Logan Ertz. He married Carolyn Rowan on May 7, 1955, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Burlington.

      Mr. Ertz was a machinist at Burlington Northern Railroad, worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and retired from J. I. Case Company in 1992. He was a 1953 graduate of Burlington Catholic High School. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dodgeville. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and enjoyed horses and especially spending time with his family.

      Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; two sons, David W. (Denice) Ertz of Burlington and Dennis J. Ertz of Mediapolis; five daughters, Chris E. (Jon) Heyland of Ft. Madison, Karen A. (Bill) Elder of Mediapolis, Kathryn M. (Dennis) Hollingsworth of Sperry, Margaret R. Timberlake of Kingston and Sheila A. (Tom) Derbyshire of Yarmouth; 25 grandchildren; three brothers, Roy C. Ertz and Eugene W. Ertz both of Burlington and John M. Ertz of Escondido, California; one sister, Margaret E. Cullen of Newark, Delaware; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul.

      Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Sunday, January 28, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home where a Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following a 6:00 p.m. Christian Wake Service until 8:00 p.m.

      The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Ertz will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dodgeville with the Reverend Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as the Celebrant.

      Music will be provided by the Dodgeville Choir. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

      In Lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dodgeville and the Mediapolis Ambulance Service.
