    • Edith Blanche Hannon was born at Wapello, Iowa, August 18, 1880. Her early life was spent in or near Burlington, Iowa, where she married Alfred S. Pilling on August 10, 1898. Their home was made in several different Iowa town, where Mr. Pilling was engaged in business. In February 1914, they moved to German Valley, Illinois (now named Lekia), where they have since resided.

To this union were born several children, two of whom passed away in infancy. Those who remain with the father are: Mrs. Marie Edith Waulkins, Hazel Florence, Margaret Louise, Robert Horace, and Alfred Paul. Besides these there are four brothers and two sisters: Jefferson, Lowden and John Hannon, of Moline, Illinois, Edgar Hannon and Mrs. Mary Hill, of Burlington, Iowa, and Mrs. Anna Smith, of Wapello, Iowa. Added to these relatives are hosts of friends in every community where the family have lived.

At the age of fourteen Mrs. Pilling became a member of the Baptist church. Some years later, upon moving to Popejoy, Iowa, she transferred her membership to the Methodist Church, of which she remained a faithful and devoted member until the end. At the time of death she was holding the offices of Assistant Superintendent of the Sunday School and President of the Ladies Aid Society.

In her passing we record the triumph of a noble Christian faith. Her earnest effort and prayer was that she might live a life pleasing unto her Lord, so that each act of life, even in the common round of duties, was performed with a consciousness of His presence. She was sweet and cheerful in spirit and never was known to speak unkindly to anyone. Her devotion to her family was marked by a self-sacrifice and self-forgetfulness that is seldom seen.

Her cheerful and wise council made her a helpmate indeed, and her Mother love knew no bounds. Her faith and trust in God were more than sufficient. She died with a song upon her lips and a smile of triumph upon her face. She loved to quote "In my Fathers house are many mansions." It was a request often made that no one should mourn her death for it would but mark her coronation in a richer and fuller life. During her life she had looked forward to having a home of her own. That hope was about to be realized. She had long been planning the new home and in a few months would have enjoyed it. But, while she can not enjoy the one she planned, she dwells in the Fathers house of many mansions. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon.
