    The Hawk Eye 
    • Lawrence Wayne "Huck" Wiley, 77, of Wapello, died Wednesday, February 9, 2000, at the Wapello Nursing and Care Center.

      Born December 29, 1922, near Oakville, he was the son of Harvey T. and Esther Fisher Wiley. He married Wilda J. Pogemiller September 30, 1943, at Charleston, South Carolina. She died in 1952. He later married Blanche Fisher August 3, 1953, at Davenport. She died May 3, 1976.

      He was a graduate of Morning Sun High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission for more than 20 years.

      He was a member and past commander of the VFW Glenn Allen Post 5166 of Wapello. He enjoyed working on lawn mower engines and listening to music. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren, driving them around and watching them participate in their various activities.

      Survivors include a son, Russell Wiley of Wapello; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three brothers, O. E. "Tobe" Wiley of Wapello, Richard Wiley of Muscatine and Gary Wiley of Abington, Illinois.

      Besides his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one granddaughter and two brothers.

      Friends may call after noon Saturday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

      The funeral for Mr. Wiley will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Doolin and the Reverend Judy F. Gingerich officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun with military rites conducted by the Wapello VFW.

      A memorial has been established for the Wapello Youth League.
