Obituary  May 1922  Louisa County, Iowa Find all individuals with events at this location  [10
    • Jacob Seitz, son of Samuel & Margaret (Wile) Seitz, was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, October 26, 1832. He died at his home near Elrick, May 14, 1922, living past his eighty-ninth milestone, six months and twenty days, before he died.

The history of all the years that lies between cannot now be written out, but is interwoven with much that is best in the growth and development of Louisa County. For what the county is today in the development of her resources, in the growth of her institutions and public improvements, in the accumulation of her wealth and the advancement of her civilization, is due in part to the noble pioneers of whom the subject of this prominent figure.

He was a man with whom it was a pleasure to meet, as he always had a smile and cheerful greeting for his friends. Born of German parentage, he instilled qualities that filled him for the life of a sturdy pioneer.

At 18 years of age and in the year 1851, when Iowa was but 5 years old, he and his parents came to Louisa County and assisted in opening up and developing the farm which has been his home until his death.

In 1876, Mr. Seitz was united in marriage with Rebecca Wile, who passed away about 8 years before he did.

Mr and Mrs. Seitz were the parents of five children, who were with him when he passed away. Martha, wife of Elmer Wilson of near Ainsworth; Anna, wife of Nelson Cowles of near Morning Sun; Nellie, wife of Elijah Russell of near Elrick. Besides his children, he leaves to mourn his demise a sister Rebecca Shaw, who made her home with him, and a brother John Seitz, who lives in Davenport.

Mr. Seitz, when a boy, united with the German Lutheran Church. When he came to this county there being no organization of that denomination he never went to another church. But he has kept the faith and has lived an exemplary life and one worth commenting. Wednesday, at 3 o'clock, services being conducted by the Reverend J. E. Newsom of Morning Sun.
