    • Farmer dies of apparent heart attack

      The body of a rural Morning Sun man was found early Saturday afternoon after he apparently suffered a heart attack while feeding his cattle, the Des Moines County Sheriff's Department reported.

      Rodman W. Baird, 84, was last seen about 4 p.m. Friday. His Body was found Saturday in a field north of his house. A medical examiner at the scene said he died of natural causes, possibly a heart attack.

    • Morning Sun (IA) -- Rodman W. Baird, 84, rural Morning Sun, died Friday, December 6, at his home. He was born October 27, 1901, at Morning Sun to Joseph W. and Ida Faris Baird. Me married Helen Delzell April 13, 1920, at Wapello. She died in 1974. He was a farmer and a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church.

      Surviving: Two sons, Kenneth, Wapello Route 2, Norman "Barney," rural Fairfield; two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Stout, Mediapolis, and Mrs. Lillian Mott, Hamilton, Illinois; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters; five brothers, Robert and Paul, Morning Sun, Howard "Jack," Bloomfield, Indiana, Cecil, Omaha, Nebraska, and Orville, Michigan City, Indiana; and one sister; Mrs. Harriet Pogemiller, Morning Sun.

      Funeral: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church near Morning Sun; Reverend Robert Schmidtberger; Sharon Cemetery. A memorial has been established at Pierce Funeral Home in Morning Sun.

    • At the Methodist parsonage in Wapello, Tuesday evening of this week [April 13, 1920], occured the wedding of Mr. Rodman Baird and Miss Helen Grace Delzell, the ceremony being performed by Reverend W. S. Moore. The happy couple were attended by Miss Vera Smith and Mr. Howard Delzell.

      The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Delzell, northeast of town, and is a popular and estimable young lady. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. (sic) Baird, is a graduate of our high school and an industrious and ambitious young farmer. Both will receive the hearty congratulations of hosts of friends in this community. They will reside on the Baird farm in the Sharon neighborhood.
