    • The 1879 date from his World War I draft registration and in his obituary is likely incorrect, as he was not listed (yet) with his parents, June 1880, at the time of the federal census. It is possible, of course, he simply was overlooked or there was a census error.

The 1930 census listed Ed as age 52, which would have made his birth between 1877-1878, which is definitely incorrect.

    • ED MADDUX DIES SUDDENLY

Ed Maddux, 71, retired farmer, died very suddenly at his home here on April 26 following a heart attack while he worked in his garden. He had moved to Morning Sun late last year from a farm north of town.

He is survived by his widow, the former Mary Russell, two sons, William Maddux, Wapello, and Arthur Maddux, Morning Sun, and one daughter, Mrs. Flossie Hamilton, Wapello. Also surviving are a brother, James Maddux, who lives in South Dakota, and 10 grandchildren.

    Research
    • Ed Maddux (at least presently) cannot be found on the Iowa state census of 1905, nor the federal censuses of 1900 nor 1910. If he went somewhere during those years, he obviously had returned back to Louisa County, Iowa, by 1911, which was the year of his marriage to Mary Russell.
