John and Viola Hannah were married July 2, 1891, in Salem, Iowa. He was a son of John Hannah and Catherine Seaton; she was a daughter of Peter Courter and Margaret "Bell" Lee. John and Viola had six children. A son, Harold, died in infancy or very early in his life. The other five children were daughters, who later became Jennie "Reil" Walker (1892-1958), the wife of Samuel Nathaniel Walker; Bertha Lee McDowell (1894-1990), Mary Catherine Hickenbottom (1896-1975), Cora "Belle" (Hannah/Walker) Oakley, and Esther Ruth Hannah.

John and Viola Hannah were Quakers who were born and married in Henry County, Iowa. They were both born in 1870, he on July 30 in Jackson Township, and she on January 19, in Winfield. John's parents, John and Catherine (Seaton) Hannah, were natives of Ohio. Viola's were Peter Courter of New Jersey and Margaret "Bell" Lee of Kentucky, relatives of the Confederate general, Robert E. Lee. John and Viola had six children, five girls who grew to adulthood and a son who died in infancy or childhood. As both John and Viola were born in the same year, they both died in 1950, he on January 30, she on August 17.

This photograph was kindly provided by their granddaughter, Marge (Walker) Kimble. I have estimated that it was taken in about 1925.
