The following information is known about the Charles G. Bosch Company of Burlington, Iowa, with respect to the Brumm Family: Leslie Thomas Brumm, the son of William and Helena V. [Thomas] Brumm, had moved from the family farm in Benton Township, Des Moines County, Iowa, to Burlington, Iowa, by 1905 when the Brumm Family biography was written. By 1908 if not even sooner he was working for the Charles C. Bosch Company, shown listed above with their entry to the 1937 Burlington City Directory. Leslie was the secretary and treasurer in 1908 (and the company was listed as an "electrical contractor" then rather than a plumbing company). By 1916 Leslie was still the secretary/treasurer, and the company had an address of 317 North Main Street. According to the 1920 U. S. Census, Leslie's occupation was a plumber; he owned his own plumbing shop. In 1926 Leslie was listed as President and Manager of Charles G. Bosch (plumbing) Company, 109 Jefferson Street. Stepson Ralph Brumm was also an employee. Leslie's brother, Burton Isham Brumm was working for the company as an electrician. According to an online source, during the 1920s the Charles G. Bosch Company owned radio station WLAT (ham radio? or broadcast?). In 1937-1938, Leslie was the manager, his son, William Glenn Brumm, was President of the company. Burt Brumm was no longer working for the company. In 1940 Leslie was still working for the company. In 1941 he died. At somepoint thereafter Glenn Brumm moved to Washington state. |
