Woman With Bible, Possibly Catherine Lett, Tintype
Woman With Bible, Possibly Catherine Lett, Tintype
This woman is on a very small (approximately 1 inch by 1 inch) "tintype" in an old, gilded frame. She is clutching her Bible. It is one of the cards a photographs I inherited which are connected to my paternal families. The woman seem to resemble Caroline (Johnson) Lett a bit. Possibly it even is she, but an educated guess is that it was her mother, Catherine Johnson, who also immigrated to the United States from Sweden with the family of Charles H. and Caroline (Johnson) Lett. Her gravestone records that she lived from July 1794 until January 1879. Please keep in mind, the identity of this tintype photograph is unproven.

This photograph, taken by Robert Walker probably in summer 1956, was one of the annual Walker family picnics in Locust Grove Park, Morning Sun, Iowa. Those identified are back row, left to right: Leota Brumm, Margaret Walker, Reil Walker, the little girl on the left is unknown (as Bob Walker took the photo, perhaps it was his daughter, Janet), the girl on the right is Becky Kimble, Marge Kimble (face hidden), uncertain, and Flossie Russell. The front row on the blanket: Ruth Broeker, Beverly Marshall, Vera Virden, and Marguerite Walker.

Women of the Extended Walker Family at Crapo Park
This photograph is of many family members sitting on the gun emplacement in Crapo Park in Burlington, Iowa. Since the installation of these guns, which are very near the river and facing Illinois, not once has the Illinois militia invaded Burlington or southeast Iowa.

Left to right in the photograph are Verona Violet (Dotson) Walker, Zella "Myrtle" (Walker) Dotson, Margaret Loretta "Margie" (Allen) Collingwood, Helen Marie (Collingwood) Umphrey, and Thelma Verlee (Umphrey) Allen, probably in about 1976.

Women of the Moyers and Stanley Families
Women of the Moyers and Stanley Families
Steven Robert Piper kindly provided this photograph. There are two Moyers women in it, sisters Caroline "Maude" Moyers and Alpha Victoria "Fay" (Moyers) Cox. The other four are presumably cousins, nieces of their mother, Kathryn Ann "Bappy" (Stanley) Moyers. Maude is in the center, back row, and Fay is in the center front of the photograph. Their maternal aunts and uncle, some of whom are apparently the parents of the other four women, were Mary J. Stanley, Martha E. Stanley, Charles B. Stanley, and Emma C. (Stanley) Barrowman.

A special dedication was arranged when his death fell so close to the end of the school year.

Zella "Myrtle" (Walker) Dotson in New London
Myrtle Dotson, and her husband Theodore Roosevelt "Ted" Dotson, lived in New London Iowa for a number of years from the 1920s until about 1955 when they moved to West Burlington, Iowa. Their home was on North Pine Street, nearly at the north edge of town. I have some fairly distant memories of it, as I stayed with Myrtle frequently when my mother worked at the town's glove factory.
