McCAUSLAND - A DeWitt woman was killed and her husband seriously injured as the result of a Saturday afternoon accident west of McCausland.

Scott County sheriff's deputies said 71-year-old Beverly Marshall died in the single-vehicle accident in the 20500 block of 300th Street.

The Scott County Sheriff's Department reported that a truck driven by 74-year-old Elwood Marshall was driving his pickup truck westbound on 300th Street. The truck, which was pulling a small trailer, left the south side of the roadway and went into an embankment of a small creek.

Deputies said Beverly died as the result of the impact, while Elwood was taken to Genesis Medical Center East Campus.

Deputies believe that Elwood may have fallen asleep behind the wheel when the accident happened.

The accident remains under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff's Department's Accident Response Team.
