• Obituary: The Morning Sun News-Herald, February 26, 1925, Morning Sun, Louisa County, Iowa. 4 PROMINENT FARMER DIES SUDDENLY
Henry Pogemiller, one of this community's prominent farmers, was suddenly called by death Friday afternoon. He had gone to the timber near his farm and while there was stricken with heart trouble. He lay helpless for a while, vainly trying to attract the attention of some one. He managed to get on his wagon and drive home, but only lived a few minutes after reaching the house. A physician was hastily summoned but could do nothing for him. He had been in his usual good health up to the time of his death.
The following members of the family were called here for the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pogemiller of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Basil Pogemiller and son of Salem, Iowa; Charles Pogemiller of Henry, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Wilson and daughter of Rock Island; Miss Lena Pogemiller from Ames where she is attending the state college.
Henry Pogemiller, son of Henry and Mary Pogemiller, was born near Bremen, Germany, on July 19, 1864. Upon coming to this country in 1881 he made his home with an uncle in Burlington and was united in marriage on February 9, 1887, to Olive Walker. Eleven children, all still living, were born to this union: Basil of Salem, Iowa; Charles of Henry, Illinois; Mrs. Lucy Wilson, of Rock Island; Frank of Chicago; Mrs. Hattie Willson, Mrs. Bessie Owens, Earl, Donald, Lena, Alice and Russell, all of Morning Sun.
Mr. and Mrs. Pogemiller went to housekeeping five miles north of Burlington, and moved to the present homestead north of Morning Sun in 1900. Mr. Pogemiller was a very successful farmer, putting all his children through the Morning Sun high school and sending some of them to college. A fine new residence was erected on the home place a few years ago. He was an honest, industrious citizen, conservative and circumspect, quiet, but efficient and dependable. He said little but thought much. His words carried the weight of deliberation and mature judgment. The community loses a highly useful and respected citizen in his death.
Mr. Pogemiller connected himself with church in early childhood. Upon settling near Morning Sun he became an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was a member of its official board at the time of his death. Loyal in his support, consistent in his Christian life and a pillar of the church. He also served three years as a member of the school board of the consolidated district of Morning Sun. He will be sadly missed in the church and in the men's Bible class. He will be missed in the community where he has lived for a quarter of a century and has reared his family. Most of all he will be missed in the home. The sympathy is extended to the bereaved wife and family.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 2 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Reverend H. W. Munster, assisted by a former pastor, Reverend J. S. Decker of Mediapolis, and Reverend J. C. K. Milligan of this city. The text was taken from Revelations 14:13, "I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord: Yea saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." The stalwart sons of the deceased acted as pall bearers, and a son-in-law, Mr. Floyd E. Wilson, sang two beautiful solos, with piano accompaniment by Mrs. H. W. Munster. Internment was made at the Elmwood cemetery.
